THE CONVERSION….

Most mobile bars won’t have a whole page dedicated to its conversion. This was such a special and unique project we knew that we had to document her development and share it with the world.

Before we set out on this venture our aim was to create a unique mobile bar, we didn’t want to do what has already been done. With this in mind we set to work and spent hours and hours searching for the “right project” for us.

This is and was never going to be just another mobile bar conversion!

After weeks of searching, we found her! We bought her from lovely chap called Adam, she had belonged to Adams Dad. Tucked away under some conifers, the boat had been stored in the garden of his family home in Gloucester for quite some time.

She was in quite a bad way, it was clear that her seafaring days were behind her. But, it was love at first site. That was that, she was coming to Wales!

It appears that the old girl has lived quite a life. After some detective work we managed to find the shipwrights that had built her, she was built in the 1970’s by H.J. Mears & Son Boat Builders. She was christened ‘Puffin’ and at some stage, later in life got renamed ‘Woody of Exeter’.

She has been a fishing boat, she has hauled in lobster and she has felt the wind in her sails as a clinker racer. Now of course, she is (what we believe to be) the most beautiful mobile bar in the country.

We have had to structurally restore much of the boat before we begun the conversion. The amount of work involved may have been slightly misjudged. It seemed The Wonky Puffin is not becoming a fully-fledged land lubber without a fight! As much as is viably possible we have stayed true to her past and using as many marine materials as possible, this includes our paints & finishes, fixtures & fittings and more.

Her time on the water is now sadly over but this new chapter in her life will see her swap waves for mountains, fish for sheep and bait for booze as she travels the land to attend many happy and joyous events!

If you would like to find out even more about us, the boat, the conversion/restoration or would like to book an event please get in touch any time!

We would love it if you joined us on our adventure.
